In short: There will be no Stranger Things season 6. The main series ended with season 5 on New Year's Eve 2025, after five seasons and 42 episodes. The story still continues: with the animated series Tales from '85, whose second season has been on Netflix since 17 September 2026, a live-action spin-off with new characters and the stage play The First Shadow.
On 6 November 1983, Will Byers vanishes without a trace on his way home from a D&D night. That date is where everything begins, which is why fans celebrate 6 November as Stranger Things Day. This year the day feels different, because for the first time there is no new season waiting for us.
So is Stranger Things season 6 coming? Here you will find what is officially confirmed after the finale, which spin-offs are already running and how to celebrate Stranger Things Day at home. Plus a few pieces of Stranger Things merch that bring Hawkins into your home even without new episodes.
Is Stranger Things season 6 happening?
No, season 5 was the final season of the main series. The Duffer Brothers announced before it started that it would finish the story of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max. Nothing has changed since.
Netflix released the final season in three parts: four episodes at the end of November 2025, three more at Christmas and the finale "The Rightside Up" on New Year's Eve. The story is set in November 1987. In total, Stranger Things has five seasons with 42 episodes, from July 2016 to the turn of the year 2025 to 2026.
If you still haven't got over the ending, you are not alone. A T-shirt with attitude helps me: the Stranger Things One Last Adventure T-shirt carries the same title as the documentary about the making of the final season that Netflix released in January 2026. And the Party vs. Vecna Final Season T-shirt reminds you who faced whom in the end.
Stranger Things: Tales from '85
The animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85 is the first official spin-off and it is already here. It is set in the winter of 1985, between the second and third seasons of the main series, when the friends are still kids and Hawkins is buried in snow.
The first season with ten episodes arrived on Netflix on 23 April 2026, the second, also with ten episodes, on 17 September 2026. If you want company while watching, put the Stranger Things Max Tales from '85 Funko Pop figure and the Stranger Things Eleven Tales from '85 Funko Pop figure next to the TV. Both wear their look from the animated series.
Stranger Things spin-off: new characters, new town
Alongside the animated series, the Duffer Brothers are working on a live-action spin-off. So far, what is known is mostly what it won't be: not a continuation with the old gang. The creators talk about new characters, a new place and a new story connected to the Upside Down.
There is no title, cast or release date yet. I don't expect it any time soon, but the door to Hawkins stays open. Or rather the gate.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow on stage
Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a stage play that tells the prequel to the series. It is set in Hawkins in 1959 and shows how young Henry Creel later becomes Vecna.
The play has been running in London's West End since December 2023 and on Broadway in New York since April 2025. Netflix has announced that it will film the production. When it will appear on the platform has not been confirmed yet.
Stranger Things Day on 6 November: how to celebrate at home
Stranger Things Day is the perfect excuse for an evening like in the Wheelers' basement. A little spooky, a little eighties and friends who would follow you into the Upside Down if they had to.
To set the mood, put the Stranger Things Demogorgon alarm clock on the table. It looks like a cassette labelled "For Will" with a Demogorgon perched on top. An alarm clock that reminds you of Will's day somehow fits, even if you hopefully never need it to wake you up from the Upside Down.
For the binge-watch, have hot chocolate from the Steve mug from the Final Season. Steve rescued plenty of kids and sold plenty of ice cream over five seasons, so he has earned a spot on your coffee table. For cuddles there is the Stranger Things Demogorgon plush figure with sound. In plush form the Demogorgon looks surprisingly good-natured, only the sound reminds you who you are dealing with.
If you'd rather have something calm to do in the evening, try the Stranger Things Hawkins Heroes puzzle with super small pieces. The pieces are small, the test of patience is big, and Dustin would still have a plan. And for the right outfit there is the Stranger Things Hellfire Club crest long-sleeve, because no D&D night is complete without Eddie's club.
Stranger Things in winter: jumpers and socks
6 November is also a good kick-off for winter in Hawkins. When it gets dark and foggy outside, your street looks a bit like the Upside Down anyway.
For cold feet there is the Stranger Things socks 3-pack in a gift box. The box is already gift-ready, in case you are still looking for Secret Santa gifts for fans. And for the Christmas party there is the Stranger Things Demogorgon knitted jumper, the ugly Christmas sweater for everyone who would rather wear monsters than reindeer.
